Take Them to Church: Basilica Soundscape 13, in Hudson
Basilica Soundscape 13, held this past weekend in Hudson, New York, didn’t just feel like an aesthetic victory. The efforts of the Basilica team are also one of many necessary measures that need to be taken when real-estate prices affect the cultural health of a city.
I have a slideshow of photos in this New Yorker article about Basilica Soundscape. Moments like these make my NY life worth it.

I teamed up with Pitchfork to cover this year’s Basilica SoundScape.
“The weekend’s program fused film, literature, sculpture and performance art with a range of noise, shoegaze, electronic, ambient and grindcore sounds, including a Friday evening bill curated by Pitchfork editor Brandon Stosuy.”
The two day event featured performances by Pig Destroyer, Pharmakon, Evian Christ, Julianna Barwick, DIIV, Malang Djoateh, No Joy, Pure X, Cass McCombs and Teengirl Fantasy. Readings by Peter Sotos and Richard Hell. A performance art piece by Genevieve White and a sculpture by Lionel Maunz. Plus a simultaneous sound piece organized by Stosuy, conceptual artist Matthew Barney and composer Jonathan Bepler featuring Evian Christ, Pig Destroyer, Pharmakon and Julianna Barwick.
