This past weekend Pitchfork and MoMA PS1 held a benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy victims with Holly Herndon and DJ sets by Ducktails and Ohthetrix Point Never. All proceeds went to the the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. Check the rest of the set out [here].

Years ago I met up with playwright/activist, Lisa Ramirez to shoot photos for her play called Exit Cuckoo (Nanny in Motherland). I can’t say enough about how intelligent and entertaining this play is and how happy I am that she and her work are gaining more recognition. “Blanko & Noiry is a multi-generational performance collaborative that has performed in New York City since 2006. Blanko & Noiry have appeared at venues including MOMA/PS1, La Mama Gallery, The Kitchen, and Gavin Brown Gallery. Blanko & Noiry is Chris Kachulis, Frank Haines and Reuben Lorch-Miller. Our work is based on mutual interests in ritual, Vaudeville, show tunes, the occult, psychodrama, Viennese Actionism and experimental electronic music.”

480 Pixels – An Exhibition of BrooklynVegan’s Music Photography, opens at 92YTribeca August 16 and showcases the work of over a dozen photographers who regularly contribute to BrooklynVegan.

And, of course, the best way to celebrate the opening of a BrooklynVegan music photography exhibit is with live music. Following the opening night reception in the gallery on August 16, BrooklynVegan favorites the Heliotropes, Hunters, and the Screaming Females perform live on 92YTribeca’s mainstage. Works by Marissa Paternoster, lead singer and guitarist for the Screaming Females, are also among those featured in the exhibit.

Blackend doom band, Salö, has embarked on their first tour. If you live in the Northeast or are trapped in the Bible belt I strongly suggest you check them out. They’ll have tapes, shirts and patches on sale. If this isn’t enough to convince you, killer artist, Karlynn Holland, designed their logo and artwork and “Grim” Kim Kelly is helping spread the word about them. Check ‘em out and support your peoples.
